| Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review - STFUandPLAY

STFUandPLAY's Tony Polanco writes:
"Im a child of the 80s. I was born in February of 1980 so I was there for most of the decade. I love anything 80s: the music, the movies, the TV shows, the fashion, shit, I even look back on the Cold War with nostalgic fondness. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon pretty much takes everything that I remember and love about the 80s and blends it all into one hell of a fun game. Im not a big fan of FPS games, but when one comes around that bleeds 1980s like this one, I have no choice but to buy it. Its almost as if Ubisoft sat down in a room and went okaylets make a game for Tony. They fucking succeeded."

GIZORAMA - Commando, Demolition Man and Top Gun are some of my favorite 80s films of all time. Earlier this year, Ubisofts Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon perfectly nailed the 80s aesthetic and atmosphere. In turn, it revived many of the older players heavily buried nostalgia for the neon-colored era. Most Wanted Entertainments Thunder Wolves tries to act as a tribute to the 80s action genre by stuffing itself with crazy, over-the-top gameplay, a heavy metal tune and a plethora of silly one-liners. Sadly, those particular elements are what hurt the game the most.

Then Scott of Screen-Shaped Eyes got drunk and imagined Far Cry 3 was about dragons and lasers and cyborgs. Or he played Far Cry 3's DLC, Blood Dragon. Could be both.

Aaaaand we're back with the top sellers from May 2013! Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon claimed its spot at the top of the PS3 chart (deservedly so, if I have anything to say about it), Call of Juarez: Gunslinger made a mighty strong debut, and Journey keeps drifting around the top ten.

Its weird to be writing this Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon review, especially as the game seemed like an elaborate joke at first....

What youll ultimately get out of Blood Dragon, is a game thats designed to rekindle the unadulterated fun that was so synonymous with the media of the 80s. Whilst it should be said that some of the references may be lost on a younger generation, the premise of the presentation certainly wont be and that, along with a great content to price ratio, makes Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon an attractive proposition to anyone who likes laughing and shooting things at the same time. If you hated the 80s and think shooters are dull however, probably one to steer clear of.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is about as stellar an homage as you get. That its also a well-designed title thats fun to play only makes Ubisofts efforts that much more impressive. Seriously, there are dragons that blow things up with laser vision. What more could you want from a game?
